Literacy Week!
Literacy Week! 31/10/2016 - 4/11/2016
Literacy week (or book week) was a great experience! We did stop drop and write every day, so we had a picture prompt or we had to do a 50 word story, or maybe on that day we had a sentence starter. This was one of my favorite things we did: Everyone in the school was told at assembly that "10 golden tickets have been hidden round the school!" It was so exciting. Rumors stated going around the school that "this golden ticket is here" or "I found a golden ticket!" By Friday all the tickets had been found and I hadn't even come close to finding one :( Oh well, anyway more fun stuff happened on this week! Almost forgot about the most important thing! On Thursday we could dress up as our favorite book character. I dressed up as Katniss Everdeen for this particular day. Everyone loved my outfit! Overall i'm really looking forward to next year when we have the next Literacy week! :D

KORU GAMES!
We went to Koru games in term 3 and played well and fierce.
The girls soccer team had been practicing for the whole of three terms to get ready for the big day. It didn't go as well as we thought, but we fought well, and proud. We played about five schools throughout the whole tournament. We lost all of them accept one was quite special to me. Since a girl broke her leg while we were playing, we could choose weather to keep on playing or do a penalty shoot out. Mrs Alice (our coach) chose penalty shoot out. I had been chosen to be one of the five people that would try to score past their goalie, so far all my team members had failed at that task but when I stood up, I wanted to make my school proud, so I stood up there, got ready, and...
I SCORED A GOAL!!! My first one in the tournament (and the teams only one). On the way back to school I felt good and i'm looking forward to Koru games next year!

Koru Games
The activity I did was: Soccer (football)
Two highlights of the Koru Games for me were:
1. I got a goal, not just a goal, the only goal our team got in the whole tournament. I got it in the penalty shoot out when our team tied with Hornby.
2. I played as hard as I could in the Koru games, probably the most I've ever tried.
I am proud of: Getting a goal, because everyone cheered as the goalie missed and did not save it.
Next year I will: Train to be a goalie because the one this year wasn't quite on point. I will try to be a striker too.

Today was very eventful. I would be putting my special mark on the piece of wood (the table top) that I have been sanding for the past weeks and I get to start on sanding the table legs! But A few things went wrong in the process... Mr bowers did a big talk to us about how hot the ends of the poker burner things are and I listened very well to that. When it was my turn to do it though, i asked Mr. bowers to help me put in the plugs and turn it on, he accidently, before turning it off, burn't me on the hand/finger with the end of the poker thing. It hurt and was hot! He told me to quickly put it under cold water so I did.
It was okay after a little while, but it still hurts even now when I put pressure on it. But I don't blame him for doing that, he didn't know I was beside him. ( I guess I showed the care value of Resilience here)It went okay after that, until I heard I had to drill htings in to my wood next... I freaked out in my mind but just breathed in and out slowly in the actual world. Mr, Bowers helped me because it was scary! It turned out well and now I just have to sand all the wood legs for the table. I great day (accept for the burn)!

Yet again, more sanding.
Doesn't matter though because I know it is going to turn out amazing when it is finished and it will sit and my new bedroom next to my bed (if I do the sanding correctly)! I learn't some new tricks from Mr. Bowers which were the following, if you put the wood on an angle and sand hard on it it turns it very smooth and what we want! The types of sandpaper are: 100p, 180p, 320p, 600p, 1000p, 1200p, 1500p. They make is sharper and smoother! Anyway, when we got back on the bus the boys started rocking it back and forth back and forth annoyingly making the whole bus wobble and shake, again. I showed the care values of Respect and Excellnce when I was on the bus by being Resilient, self aware and communication (talking to the person next to me only.)

Technology #3! 24/6/2016
Today we started sanding our tables, my design was different from everyone else. It was a bit like an octogon (but not quite). We sanded,
and sanded,
and sanded,
like forever! But it was enjoyable anyway! I chatted with Sasha about learning and if she's finding this "Sanding" thing fun or not. (I guess we were empathising which is a learner quality) By the way Sasha if making a clock! We communicated well (learner quality) until it was time to pack up our things, the funny thing was, no one was asked to pack up. Everyone just started putting chairs up and sweeping the floor as if the teacher told us to, he was very satisfied with how we packed up without asking! We all worked together as a team to tidy the place up (I guess we collaborated to get the job done? Which is a learner quality) so the day was great until on the bus, the boys at the back of the bus swayed it back and forth by moving themselves constantly to the other side of the bus. But other than that I enjoyed my day and went home and told everyone about it!

Today at technology I went to a different workshop because it was the end of the last one. I went to Wood works. At wood works we started our plan for making either a table, clock or tray. I chose a table. Me and Sasha used a learner quality here when we connected and collaborated (also communicating) on ideas for what our things should look like! I was curious as to what kinds of wood there were so I asked a question (learner quality). We had to draw a 3D sketch/ design of what we were making. Mine turned out quite interesting! :p

Leadership post ( must do )
Today I was playing with Tatiana, when we spotted some children playing on the senior playground when they weren't allowed too. We asked the duty teacher if we could go sort it out. So we went over to the senior playground and found out there were already some senior boys trying to sort it out but they needed help! So Tatiana asked one of the naughty boys to get off the playground, while I tried to reason with one and tell them "that today wasn't a day you were allowed on the playground because the field was wet. " ( I used the communicating learner quality here ) He wasn't listening, so I tried to use my manners and keep trying. Tatiana then said " Get off the playground " to the boy. Then he punched her in a hard way. A tear rolled down her cheek but she had to do her duty " Don't punch me again, or i'll tell the teacher " Then he punched her five times. She went off crying. I tried to help her. We sat down away from the boys, the bell rang at that moment. "( we were being self aware here ) We have to go back to class! " I said but she didn't want too. Everyone on the playground disappeared. The other seniors who were helping out asked if tatiana was okay. I asked them if they could track down the boy who did this, Because I didn't know what their names were or what room they were from. Tatiana and I made our way back to the classroom slowly. She then spotted Daniel Doyle, the child who did this, in room 24. We went back to class and everything got sorted out. :) kind of! :/

Technology ( must do )
Technology 27/5/2016
Today at technology I used the collaborating learner quality by collaborating with my class. I chose to make a tablet/ipad holder to hold my tablet when doing you tube videos and just playing and working on my tablet. So I needed to hold something for me, other than me holding it myself. I used a learner quality, when I questioned about if it would work with others. I made the design on Tinkercad ( a 3D printing website ) and I asked the teacher if it was good, she said yes, so she made a smaller copy called a prototype so we could see if it would work. It would take till 12 which meant an hour. So I started making a plan for a new design i'd like. I decided to make a catnip pillow. A pillow for my cat to cuddle with catnip inside, ( catnip is something that smells nice to cats that makes them go crazy! ) they liked the idea so I went over into the sewing room and I got taught how to use a sewing machine, I was communicating well here ( learner quality ) with the teacher and questioning about what parts of the sewing machine do what. I started practicing to sew with the machine. I already know how to hand sew, ( it seems easier for me ) and when i'd finished doing that I started actually choosing the fabric for the pillow and the teacher said she had catnip in her desk somewhere that I could use. By tis time the tablet/ipad holder was finished 3D printing. It was also time for our time at technology to end. I took the 3D printed tablet holder and thanked the teacher for doing this for me. We all got back on the bus, I was self aware throughout the bus ride and was playing with my new tablet holder. Even though it was a prototype it worked well at home, until a piece of it fell off, but I didn't mind. The new catnip pillow is coming soon!Kauri cross country! ( must do )
Kauri Cross Country! 27/5/2016
It is my second week this term and cross country is on Thursday. I am excited and have butterflies in my tummy at the same time. On the day of the cross country, all the classes walked down in single file, one after the other. Us seniors were at the back. When we got there, we all sat down and had some morning tea. I sat down with my friends, and here I showed communication, talking with my friends about how our previous cross countries have gone and how we feel about running 3km. I was super excited ( and quite scared ) about the race. We were up first though... us year seven girls. So we lined up and got ready to go, when the race started, others got in front I was near the back, but I didn't mind because I sped up and stayed in the middle. Someone fell over at the start and hurt themselves but they got back up and kept going. Throughout the race I was huffing and puffing, but luckily i like long distance running. It's better and easier I find. I was being self aware during the race when I stood out of peoples way and of course kept my hands and feet to myself. During the race even though I was tired I still spoke and silently cheered others on and tried to start up a conversation with Sasha by saying " this is quite hard , eh? " or something like that. I think that means i'm connecting which is a learning quality. Not sure Sasha heard me but I didn't mind. Finally I could see the finish line up ahead. I sprinted on up, my face was probably bright red because I was so hot. I came 8th. Which isn't bad for me so I really enjoyed it. My friend Hayley came 6th i believe and Tatiana i'm not sure she was in the top 10 but she really tried! Me and Hayley empathized ( learning quality ) by talking about how we felt before and after the race. We both felt resilient. ( another learning quality ). In fact after a while I felt like a could run another lap! At the end of the day I felt proud ad like a leader.
