Technology ( must do )

Today at technology I used the collaborating learner quality by collaborating with my class. I chose to make a tablet/ipad holder to hold my tablet when doing you tube videos and just playing and working on my tablet. So I needed to hold something for me, other than me holding it myself. I used a learner quality, when I questioned about if it would work with others. I made the design on Tinkercad ( a 3D printing website ) and I asked the teacher if it was good, she said yes, so she made a smaller copy called a prototype so we could see if it would work. It would take till 12 which meant an hour. So I started making a plan for a new design i'd like. I decided to make a catnip pillow. A pillow for my cat to cuddle with catnip inside, ( catnip is something that smells nice to cats that makes them go crazy! ) they liked the idea so I went over into the sewing room and I got taught how to use a sewing machine, I was communicating well here ( learner quality ) with the teacher and questioning about what parts of the sewing machine do what. I started practicing to sew with the machine. I already know how to hand sew, ( it seems easier for me ) and when i'd finished doing that I started actually choosing the fabric for the pillow and the teacher said she had catnip in her desk somewhere that I could use. By tis time the tablet/ipad holder was finished 3D printing. It was also time for our time at technology to end. I took the 3D printed tablet holder and thanked the teacher for doing this for me. We all got back on the bus, I was self aware throughout the bus ride and was playing with my new tablet holder. Even though it was a prototype it worked well at home, until a piece of it fell off, but I didn't mind. The new catnip pillow is coming soon!

Kauri cross country! ( must do )

Kauri Cross Country!                                            27/5/2016

It is my second week this term and cross country is on Thursday. I am excited and have butterflies in my tummy at the same time. On the day of the cross country, all the classes walked down in single file, one after the other. Us seniors were at the back. When we got there, we all sat down and had some morning tea. I sat down with my friends, and here I showed communication, talking with my friends about how our previous cross countries have gone and how we feel about running 3km. I was super excited ( and quite scared ) about the race. We were up first though...  us year seven girls. So we lined up and got ready to go, when the race started, others got in front I was near the back, but I didn't mind because I sped up and stayed in the middle. Someone fell over at the start and hurt themselves but they got back up and kept going. Throughout the race I was huffing and puffing, but luckily i like long distance running. It's better and easier I find. I was being self aware during the race when I stood out of peoples way and of course kept my hands and feet to myself. During the race even though I was tired I still spoke and silently cheered others on and tried to start up a conversation with Sasha by saying " this is quite hard , eh? " or something like that. I think that means i'm connecting which is a learning quality. Not sure Sasha heard me but I didn't mind. Finally I could see the finish line up ahead. I sprinted on up, my face was probably bright red because I was so hot. I came 8th. Which isn't bad for me so I really enjoyed it. My friend Hayley came 6th i believe and Tatiana i'm not sure she was in the top 10 but she really tried! Me and Hayley empathized ( learning quality ) by talking about how we felt before and after the race. We both felt resilient. ( another learning quality ). In fact after a while I felt like a could run another lap! At the end of the day I felt proud ad like a leader.

Librarian blog post #1 ( can do )

Today was my first day for doing my job as a librarian. Mrs Ward let me try out for today at lunch and so I came with Brook and we helped put away books and I learn't which coloured books go where and where everything is so i quite enjoyed my time there! The library is a lovely place to go when you want to read about what you like, in silence ( or whispering ) and you can finish off SML and homework. I sat at the desk where Mrs ward sits, with Brook and we would read our books until someone wanted a book issued! Up to 4 people came to the desk, wanting a book out and at the end of lunchtime I went and told everyone it was time to pack up their games and all the stuff they were doing. I got a cool badge as well ( the librarian badge ) and so now I am a librarian and i really am enjoying it! One of the leadership qualities i used was collaboration when Brook and I worked as a team to get one job done after the next.

My Story...
 Locked Away            12/5/2016


“Freeze!” I hear a voice whisper. Oh no, they’ve got me! I think, I side step and run out of the bank. I see my bicycle, I jump on it and throw the money bag over my shoulder, I start pedaling. I hear sirens behind me so i pedal faster. I make out a brick wall up ahead, i can’t go left or right, i’m gonna CRASH! I can’t stop my bike because it’s going too fast! Everything goes black…


I wake up. My alarm clock’s going off. I look at the time, 8;45? “I’m going to be late for school!” I jump outta bed and run to the front door. I forgot to change my clothes. I run back inside, get changed, do my hair and say goodbye to my sister and mum. By this time it’s 8:50. I hurdle onto my scooter and go zooming down the street. Just as i get the school into view, the bell rings. “ Oh No! “ I slow down on my scooter, our teacher calls the roll at exactly 9am, i’d never make it!


I make my way into school grounds. Children are staring out of their classroom windows at me, I feel… Embarassed! A senior, like me trudging into school, five minutes over the bell. I drag my feet into class and get sent to the office to tell them i’m here. My excuse was i “ slept in “.


At morning Tea I sit down at a cafetaria table and wait for my friends. Katey and Isabella strolled into the room with big grins on their faces. As soon as they spotted me, they ran over. “ We got black belts in karate class!”. They were jumping up and down in excitement. “ Great! “ I say sarcasticlly. My eyes fall upon the golden badge saying ‘ black belt ‘Katey is wearing. They stared at me, the grins got swiped off their faces. “ What’s not precise? “ Isabella said. I show them the big red stamp on my hand. “ LATE “. “ Again? Seriously? Make your alarm clock louder!” Katey giggled.


It’s the third time this week…” I say, annoyed and sleepy.” they’re gonna call my parents”. “ oh, that’s not good!” Isabella shouted. Everyone in the cafetaria glare at us. “ Oops! “ She said quietly. Katey stood up, “ just carry on what you’re doing everything fine!” then she turns to us, and sits back down.” Is that better?” she murmurs. I slap my face…


( 2 HOURS LATER )


Yes! I say to myself. Almost the end of school! I need to get out of this place as soon as i can. Mr. whiskers ( my cat ) will be lonely. “ RING RING RING! “ “ YES!!!!! “ I scream. “ Emma, the is not acceptable behaviour. “ My teacher blabbers on. “ you will stay behind and write lines! Let’s make that, 100 lines! “ “ NOOO! I mean… Yay? “


I turn around and look at my friends as they exit the classroom like everyone else. ( accept me ) “ bye..” I silently mouth words. “ C U @ 4 “
Minutes passed as I sat there staring at my piece of A4 paper in front of me. “ okay. Let’s do this… “ 100 lines saying “ i will not shout in class “ ok. I’ve got this! 30 minutes later and i’m finished. One-hundred lines, not too bad. Doesn’t take long at all.


I raise my head from the piece of paper. My teacher is not there. Where did he go? I wonder. I get up from my seat, put my sheet of paper on his desk and walk out of the room. I peek down the halls… No teacher, student or friend in sight. I look at the clock. 3:45. Hmm… Well the office lady should still be here! So I head down the corridor, to the front doors, then, my confusion takes over me. Maybe, i’m alone, maybe no one’s here, maybe i’ll be stuck here till dawn!


I check the office, doors locked. They must have had to go home for some reason, they’ve packed up and left. When i start walking away from the doors, Bam, Boom, Bam! Someone is trying to get in! I run into the next room and hide. by this time I start worrying. I check all doors and windows. All of them either sealed, don’t open further enough to fit through or they are open but just lead you into another room with locked doors and windows! I feel like i’m in that dream i had last night, in jail with bars around me, no way to get in or out. Maybe this is a dream!


JUST THEN! I heard crackling sounds above me as if someone was in the ceiling. I back into a corner of the room and crouch down. I tried hiding behind a bin but it was either my leg or arm sticking out so it wouldn’t work!
Crack, Crackle, Crack. It was getting closer, what ever it was. If only i had never shouted in class, then none of this would have ever happened. Owe Mr.whiskers, I miss you! I wish i was at home, cuddled up on the couch-


BOOOOM!!!


A vent exploded beside me, the top of the vent shot up, hit the ceiling and came back down again making a horrible shattering sound that echoed around the room. Katey, Isabella and… MR. WHISKERS ( ! ) climbed out of the vent. “ MEEOOWWW “ Mr. whiskers hopped into my arms. Isabella and Katey hugged me. What relief, “i’m saved!” I say. “ But how’d you find me? “ I question. “ Well “ said Katey. “ That’s a long, i mean middle sized story. You see, we went to your house, your mum said you weren’t home yet. So we sat with Mr. whiskers on your bed, (it’s very comfortable by the way) and waited. A while after we decided that something might have happened, so we reversed the footsteps you would’ve taken from school, and followed them to school.”


“ Actually Mr. whiskers led us here, and we had trouble getting through the doors, so we used the vent systems Mr. whiskers sniffed you out, which led us to this vent opening “ Katey pointed to the vent that had just exploded, scaring the life out of me. “ We tried opening the vent quietly, that didn’t work so, with Isabella and my karate kicks, we kicked it open and hopped out!  Amazing you were right beside us, eh? “ “ y-yes” I say, i’m still shivering from the out-burst of the vent. “ B-but I S-s-still don’t u-understand wh-why the teacher wasn’t there when i f-finished my lines!” “ Didn’t he leave a note or something? “ they got up and sprinted to the classroom, me jogging behind… Somehow….. On my desk, was the little note.






Peer mediator duty ( can do ) #1

Today no one was with me accept Hayley who was just helping but not actually on duty. Because no one who was supposed to be on, came. I showed self awareness here, because I showed up on time! Unlike the others who were supposed to be on with me. When walking around school having a good eye out for people in need ( and Milan because she had forgotten she was on with me ), you notice that more people need help than you think they do and that there are arguments going on everywhere! I also couldn't find the ipad to record all details of your duty if something happened. It was no where to be seen! I went around the senior playground, on the field ( where the most trouble was ) and around in the junior area. I went around the backs of some classrooms to make sure no one was playing around there. When I got back from peer mediator duty I hung my green vest up then realized someone had made a big mess of all the vests because they were all over the floor really, so I picked all of them up and put them on their right full hooks. Then what I found under the last green vest was.. The ipad! I was happy it didn't get lost, but sad because I wondered why they would put it there.
